The best press-on nails in Australia: what to look for before you buy
"Best" depends on your hands, your week and what you want the nails to do. A set that's perfect for a wedding weekend isn't the one you want for typing all day. Rather than a ranking, here's the checklist we use ourselves, so you can judge any press-on nails, ours included.
1. Enough sizes to fit every finger
Fit is the single biggest factor in how natural press-ons look and how long they stay on. Look for sets with a wide size range, ideally 12 sizes, so each finger gets a nail that covers it from sidewall to sidewall. Sets with only a handful of sizes force you to choose between too wide (lifting edges) and too narrow (natural nail showing at the sides). Every 24-piece Nailees set has 24 nails in 12 sizes, two of each, so you have a spare for every size. Check our size guide to see how sizing works.
2. A shape and length that suits how you live
- Short almond or short square for everyday: easy to type, cook and work in. Browse short press-on nails.
- Almond for a soft, finger-lengthening shape that suits most hands: almond press-on nails.
- Square for a clean, classic edge: square press-on nails.
- Coffin and long for events and photos: long press-on nails.
3. A finish you'll still like next week
If you're buying your first set, a versatile finish goes further. Nude and milky white and French tip go with everything. Glitter and cat-eye sets are made for occasions, and cat-eye finishes have a shimmer that shifts as your hand moves. Full-cover designs (where the press-on covers the whole nail) look the most like a salon manicure.
4. The right adhesive, and whether it's included
Check what comes in the box. Some sets include jelly adhesive tabs, some include glue, and some include neither. Tabs are gentle and quick to remove, so they suit short-term wear and reuse; liquid glue holds for longer. If a set doesn't include what you need, add it to your order. Our guide to the best nail glue for press-on nails compares the options, and you'll find ours in glue and prep.
5. Reusability
Good press-on nails can be removed gently and worn again. That matters for value: a set you can wear more than once costs less per wear than a single manicure. How many times you'll get out of a set depends on how carefully it's removed and cleaned; our removal guide and wear and reuse guide cover both.
6. Where it ships from, and the returns policy
Shipping from within Australia usually means faster delivery and simpler support. Before you order from any store, check the estimated delivery time and the returns policy. Press-on nails are a personal-care item, so many stores, including ours, can't accept change-of-mind returns for hygiene reasons. That makes checking your size before you order even more worthwhile. Nailees ships from Australia with tracking, prices are in Australian dollars, and shipping is free on orders over A$50. See shipping and returns for details.
